PROJECT DETAILS
Creating a promotional box set of 6 cups and a tableware set to re-interpret an iconic Australian breakfast dish for a particular Café somewhere in Melbourne of choice. In this way, the concept and design must be relevant to the brand, its culture and environment.
In an out-of-the-way converted warehouse in the back streets of South Melbourne is St Ali. The exterior of the site was surrounded by graffiti, infused with street culture, refection an unique local Australian urban culture. Its cuisine included dishes from different region of the world. The most welcomed the food is of America style called The Daddy, its a burger with soft drinks set. And also got a modern Asian approach like Thai-inspired glass noddle salad and breakfast congee.
I choose to make a tableware set for breakfast congee which have one bowl, two cruets and one tray can hold all of them. For the bowl I tried to change the original bowl color from white to black and transparent. For two cruets I tried one black and one white thus customers can distinguish between two flavors. The tray I may choose dark color wood which related with the color of coffee, dark color symbolizes maturity and poise, shows the cafes food and services professional.
This final cup design reflects these key design features, consisting of a black slip, white transparent glaze, which results in a perfect tricolor color mixing effect. The slight variance of 3 colors in each cup draws upon the multicultural and multinationalism in Australia.
